YOGA THERAPY PROVIDES A SAFER, MORE PERSONALISED PRACTICE FOR YOU

Yoga Therapy is an emerging healthcare profession.

It is a one-on-one experience of being empowered to progress towards improved health and wellbeing through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga with a certified yoga therapist.

Yoga therapists have completed a yoga teacher training as well as yoga therapy training, ensuring that they have over 1000 hours of training and specific competencies to work with individuals who have health concerns.

Many yoga therapists are also trained in other healthcare modalities.

I am a certified Naturopath, Herbalist, Homoeopath, Shiatsu Therapist, Reflexologist, and Reiki practitioner. As such, I practice a wholistic, functional and traditional approach to healthcare which incorporates a biopsychosocial model of care.

As a Yoga Therapist I use yogic practices, tools, and philosophies to address mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual imbalances, or ‘dis-ease’ in the individual.

In an individual session I take an in-depth case history and conduct an individual assessment with you in a formal intake process. I then design a yoga therapy practice suited to you and continue to assist you with a dynamic, ongoing therapeutic relationship. I continuously adapt your practice to your changing needs and empower you in your journey toward self-healing and wellbeing.

Yoga Therapy can be experienced as:

  • One-on-one sessions
  • Small group therapeutic classes to individuals with the similar underlying health concerns

These sessions can be done both in-person and online (telehealth) sessions.

I often work with clients who have exhausted other health alternatives and are still looking for something to do to help themselves.

I aim to first understand your needs and objectives so that we can address the root cause of your concerns. In an initial meeting or assessment, we will work to understand your goals and intentions, as well as to evaluate and assess the primary issues and to understand the health problems that you are experiencing.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A YOGA THERAPY SESSION

  • A chat about you
  • Physical yoga exercises with adaptations and variations to suit you
  • Breathing exercises for your particular needs
  • Meditation and / or relaxation practices; such as mantras, chanting, visualizations, guided imagery, progressive body relaxation techniques
  • Discussion of yoga philosophy and ethical guidelines for living well
  • Lifestyle advice
  • A personalized program for you to practice
  • We will work together over time as you progress towards your health and well-being goals

Yoga Therapy is a more personalised approach to yoga. It is an opportunity to get specific yoga practices to suit your needs, and to deepen your understanding of the philosophies and practices of yoga. It is ultimately an invitation to more acutely understand both yourself and yoga.
