YOGA MATS…SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM…

I often get asked “What mat do you use?”

For the last 7 years I have used yoga mats from Mukha…totally love these mats! And still give them the thumbs up!

Recently, I had to switch to a different mat, due to a supply issue. I choose to make the leap to a LovEarth yoga mat because these mats have always been on my radar as a top mat meeting my criteria for…

WHAT MAKES A GOOD MAT

  • Natural – not plastic – no PVC, TPE or PER
  • Biodegradable
  • Fair trade is a must – ethically made of course!
  • Australian owned business
  • Not too thin – 5mm gives great cushioning for knees, feet and hands – I want firm and cushioning; but, not too thick – squishy, thick mats are really difficult to balance on when doing standing balancing poses, however, you can always step off your mat for these. 4mm will do if the material is firm and dense.
  • No too heavy – under 3kg

I now use a LovEarth Charcoal Yoga Mat

Size: 173cm x 61cm x 4mm (but dense enough to keep my knees cushioned)

Weight : 2.2 kg

Colour: Charcoal or Oche

Price: $108 with bag or $98 without

PICK ONE UP AT YOUR NEXT CLASS IN THE STUDIO

  • Coloured with Western Australian earthy Ochre with rich red iron pigments; or Binchotan Charcoal – superb, purifying and clean

  • No PVC, PER or TPE because these are dangerous for environment and YOU

  • made from Natural Tree Rubber and Jute

  • fully biodegradable

  • non-slip super sticky cross hatch surface

  • Chemical Free

  • Includes Polygiene Stays Fresh Technology – an odor control treatment that inhibits the growth of odor causing bacteria, allowing you to use more and wash down less, keeping your yoga mat fresh and providing a real opportunity to wash down less thus help save the environment and lengthening the lifetime of your mat.

Mukha just came out with a fabulous new version…

Only one colour available…which is a gorgeous midnight blue. It is still made from enviro (and human) friendly materials. I haven’t tried it yet…but if it as good as the old ones, it will be awesome!  Mukha says their new mats have comfort, grip and traction due to the natural rubber which has an open cell structure that draws away moisture; and that they have a unique cotton mesh which delivers great rebound & stability as you move through your asanas.

Made from natural rubber harvested from live rubber trees, cotton and soda, Mukha Mats are proudly free from harmful toxins, plastics (PVC), formaldehyde & any other nasty chemicals and glues.

  • PVC & plastic free
  • Sustainably produced natural rubber
  • 100% Biodegradable
  • Durable & resilient high quality
  • Superior grip & traction

Size:  180cm  x 61cm x 5mm

Colour:  Midnight Sky

Price: $99

Let me know if you would like one of these and I can order one in for you.

Other mats that make my list…

If you like black then maybe this Mukti mat is your mat.

Size: 183cm x 61 cm x 4mm

Weight 2.4kg

 Price: $95 plus postage

Want colour?  A great and popular mat in a choice of so many colours is the Jade range from EMP. They do an extra long mat – if you are tall this would be my pick. These mats are more expensive…but you won’t regret it!

Standard Size: 60cm Wide x 173cm Long or 60cm Wide x 180cm Long (Saffron only)

Long Size: 60cm Wide x 188cm Long

Weight: Approx. 2kg

  • Made from Natural Rubber

  • Optimum grip

  • The open cell rubber absorbs sweat and keeps you in place during your practice

  • No need to break it in – non-slip from the start!

  • Provides great traction, cushion & stability

I hope this gives you some guidance and assistance in choosing from the plethora of mats out there.

Please feel free to ask me to help you choose a mat that suits you.

I have some LovEarth mats available to buy in the studio and can order a Mukha Mat for you.
